efforts to identify areas, known as reserves or protected areas (PA), capable to effectively safeguard biodiversity from their most impacting threats (Araújo et al. 2011).
In this chapter we briefly report models proposed to achieve efficiency and effectiveness in area selection under stressing changing climates, pointing out their
main shortcomings. We present an alternative spatial conservation model that
overcomes these issues, for which we give a mixed integer linear programming
(MIP) formulation and present a heuristic. Results are given comparing optimal
and heuristic solutions using several synthetic datasets. Ketegori : OPERATIONAL RESEARCH
