Ket : This project supports the mission of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Research and Development’s (ORD) Homeland Security Research Program (HSRP) by providing information relevant to the decontamination of equipment or areas contaminated as a result of biological contamination incident. Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD)-10 tasked the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) with coordinating the appropriate federal departments and agencies to develop comprehensive plans that "provide for seamless, coordinated federal, state, local, and international responses to a biological attack." As part of these plans, EPA, in conjunction with DHS and other agencies, is "developing strategies, guidelines, and plans for decontamination of persons, equipment, and facilities" to mitigate the risks of contamination following a biological weapons attack. EPA’s National Homeland Security Research Center (NHSRC) provides expertise and products that can be widely used to prevent, prepare for, and recover from public health and environmental emergencies arising from terrorist threats and incidents.
