Ket : This book is the first of a four-part series based on my online algorithms courses that have been running regularly since 2012, which in turn are based on an undergraduate course that I’ve taught many times at Stanford University. The goal of this chapter is to get you excited about the study of algorithms. We begin by discussing algorithms in general and why they’re so important. Then we use the problem of multiplying two integers to illustrate how algorithmic ingenuity can improve on more straightforward or naive solutions.
